Scott Meyer

Owner/President

Scott is a global hospitality, franchising, operations and branding executive with over 30 years in the hospitality business. As Owner and President of Compass45 Hospitality, Scott is responsible for building and leading an engaged and effective hospitality team; ensuring exceptional financial performance and return on investment for key stakeholders; and providing superior guest service at each hotel.

Prior to launching Compass45 Hospitality, Scott was the Senior Vice President – Midscale Brands Americas for Carlson Rezidor Hotels. He led one of America’s top hotel chains, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, from brand inception in 1989 to a portfolio of 450+ locations. In his role at Carlson, Scott built engaged teams and high-performance cultures that moved vision into flawless execution resulting in great experiences for customers, business partners and employees. Over his years, as the brand leader for Country Inns & Suites, he established the cultural tone of the brand resulting in top rankings from J.D. Power and exceptional net promoter scores. He launched the brand globally including hotels in Austria, Central America, Germany, India and the U.K.

Carl Kaeding

Owner

As President of Kaeding Development, Carl leads new construction and acquisitions to grow the portfolio of Compass45 Hospitality. Carl’s strengths lie in his ability to secure local-regulatory land use approvals, franchise approvals, organization of lender and investor commitments for financing and the organization of architects, contractors and engineers for ground up development.

Carl has developed and operated hotel brands with IHG, Hilton, Marriott and Radisson Hotel Group during his career. He took over as President of Kaeding Management and Development in 2010 from his father Myron. Driven by the energy and vision of Carl, Kaeding Development has been on a rapid path of expansion. Under his leadership, Kaeding Development has added 10 hotels to its portfolio. In doing so he has supervised the construction, renovation, and restoration of a number of hotel properties across the Midwest.

Greg Schindler

Corporate Director of Operations

Greg is a results driven hospitality leader with 25+ years of experience in the hospitality industry.  Prior to joining Compass45 Hospitality, Greg was most recently the Vice President of Hospitality and Retail Operations for Sherman Associates and was responsible for branded hotels with Hilton, Marriott and IHG plus oversaw all operations of the companies Starbucks Coffee Shops.  Greg's experience also includes Cobblestone Hotels as Brand President and Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group as Vice President Midscale Brands, Americas.  He has also operated hotels as the General Manager for Marriott and Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. As Corporate Director of Operations for Compass45 Hospitality, Greg is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel operations.

Greg has a proven ability to increase revenue and profitability and has a strong focus on exceeding service goals and developing highly effective work teams.  He has experience working with numerous hotel brands under the Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Cobblestone and Radisson Hotel Group.  

Greg holds Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Wisconsin - Stout.

Jana McGowan

Controller

Jana joined Compass45 Hospitality after a long career at Carlson Rezidor Hotels, where she held consistently progressive roles in Financial Planning and Analysis both for the Americas and Globally. Her responsibilities included financial planning, forecasting, analysis and strategic planning for a global system generating system-wide revenue of $37B. Jana’s financial acumen and precise financial oversight provide our business partners confidence that the company is financially healthy and well capitalized. Jana has also worked as a Senior Financial Analyst with U.S. Bancorp and Conseco Finance Corporation. At Compass45 Jana is responsible for overseeing the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and stewardship of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. Jana’s has her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and her M.B.A. in Finance from the University of St. Thomas.

Lucas Miller

Corporate Director of Food and Beverage

Lucas is a seasoned business executive with over 25 years of experience in diverse industries including non-profits, contracting, start-ups and hospitality.  He has a proven track record of driving operational efficiency, financial growth, and delivering exceptional customer service.  Lucas's strategic mindset, strong leadership, and excellent commication skills have contributed to his success in managing projects, building strong teams, and exceeding expectations.

Brody Nordland

Director of Development

Brody is a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he obtained his Master of Business Administration. Brody crossed paths with Carl Kaeding while working with the Mankato Small Business Development Center while Carl was developing the Albert Lea Holiday Inn Express. Brody’s willingness to assist where needed in a growing company has given him extensive training in all facets of the Management Company including, Human Resources, Quality Control, and Supervisory Leadership. Since joining the Kaeding Management Team in 2012, Brody has held an integral role in the success of bringing seven properties online.

Tom Langreck

Manager of Finance and Accounting

Tom Langreck oversees the production of financial statements and is responsible for analyzing and ensuring the accuracy of accounting data.  Tom is also responsible for providing sound financial advice to the hotels and entities he supports through budgeting, forecasting and analysis.

Tom has been involved in the hospitality industry both at the property and corporate level.  Prior to joining Compass45, Tom was the Property Accountant of two Marriott hotels and parking facilities with CSM Corporation.  Prior to that, Tom was the General Manager of a full-service property.  With this experience, Tom brings a wealth of knowledge in accounting and hotel management to the team.  Tom earned a double major with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Sociology from Upper Iowa University.  

Frank Burcar

Manager of Human Resources

Frank has been a hospitality professional since 1994 and has held several management positions including Director of Purchasing and Assistant Food and Beverage Manager. In 2003 Frank started his Human Resources career and held the position of Manager of Human Resources. Frank was instrumental in introducing new hire policies, creating a new employment application, initiating criminal background checks and drug testing procedures and finally putting all of this together in a forward-looking employee handbook for the company. Today in his role at Compass45 Hospitality, Frank is responsible for the overall administration of the payroll system and benefit programs for the corporate office and hotels. Frank also represents Compass45 Hospitality in the day to day interaction with local unions including grievance mediation and contract negotiations. Prior to entering the hospitality industry, Frank spent many years in the insurance industry in management and training. Frank earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota – Duluth.

Chelsea Kaeding

Director of Architecture and Design

Chelsea brings her singular design vision to the Compass45 properties and has proven instrumental in setting the tone for success within the portfolio. She has recently been recognized by IHG with an award in Design and Renovation. Not surprisingly the property for which she was given this award has also been awarded the Newcomer & Torchbearer awards. Her promise is to be design forward, offering an enhanced guest experience and a welcoming sense of place, all while providing the quality and benefits of their respective brands. Chelsea has a unique operations and ownership background, growing up as a third-generation hotelier, in which she began managing her first property at the age of 19. This operations experience has given her a distinct advantage in design, as she is able to provide a design direction which delivers an operational advantage within a stunning finished product.
